Too much wine
France produces more wine than it can sell. At the Vignoble Gabard vineyard in Bordeaux, some of the unsold wine is sent to a factory that makes industrial alcohol. In 2023, the French government invested 1.7 billion kronor to support wine farmers who send part of their harvest to distilleries, as more than 100,000 jobs are at risk across the country.
