The Yellow Vests, Gilets Jaunes movement

The Yellow Vests, or Gilets Jaunes, were a protest movement that started online and were most active between November 2018 and December 2019. Their demonstrations focused on low wages and the rising cost of living. The movement also attracted attempts at infiltration from far-right groups, anarchists, and parts of the far left. In response, trade unions invited the Yellow Vests to join their marches — but placed them at the front, since vandalism often followed in their wake. After riots left the Champs-Élysées in ruins, authorities banned further protests along the avenue. I covered many of these rallies and provided photos to several media outlets.
