Turning Concrete into Green
The Paris suburb of Le Plessis-Robinson was once a grey concrete district plagued by high unemployment and social problems. In the 1990s, however, the concrete blocks started coming down, replaced by low-rise buildings in a traditional city style. Since then, unemployment and social issues have declined. The remaining “concrete barns” have been transformed with lush gardens, and today the suburb has become an inspiration for the city of Gothenburg, which hopes to turn Biskopsgården into a garden city.
